Our story

Who We Are

When Frank started AMC those 75 years ago he did so by partnering with people and organizations possessing the expertise to provide a strong presence for AMC. This is a business philosophy the AMC leadership team continues to this day across all its divisions. We believe in building strategic partnerships that will allow AMC to grow and diversify. Our partnerships are the heart and soul of the company whether it is the outside world or our own internal employees. This company has been successful because of the partnerships we have built and indeed we could not operate without them.

Our History

Alberta Mining Corporation, AMC, was founded in 1948 by Frank Ruben. Frank was a true pioneer in the development of Alberta’s primary resources – establishing North Canadian Oils in 1947 as well as building Alberta’s first pulp mill – North Western Pulp and Power Limited in Hinton, Alberta in 1951.

By 1970, with Bob Ruben, son of Frank at the head, the company’s core business had evolved from primary industries to real estate development. Commercial and Industrial Real Estate holdings became the focus of AMC during those years.

Peter Ruben, Frank’s grandson, took over the company in 1997 and over the next few years, AMC began to make a strategic shift with respect to its real estate strategy by investing in recreational resort properties along with the purchase of the Historic Nimmons property.

Connie Ruben took over as President in 2009. Along with continuing on the path of planned development in real estate, she lead the company as it moved into Clean Technologies. Today, she is working with industry partners to create a sustainable process to provide affordable and attainable housing throughout Canada.
